Last Bercy his career in the words of some, this single date French tour "Good Evening Europe" flirted with a sweet fragrance of nostalgia. Revisiting the repertoire of Beatles, Wings and his solo career in a concert near 3:00.
With an hour behind and in front of an impatient crowd that Paul McCartney enter the picture. "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Drive My Car" then open the celebrations before an audience of Bercy chanting "Roll Up" and "Beep Beep Beep Yeah Beep'm" as one man. He follows one of Macca hello to the public in French "Bonsoir Paris ... goodnight my little cabbage ! " in an almost perfect French. An effort is rare enough to be underlined by a non-French artist. Apparently the language barrier does not seem to be an obstacle for Sir Paul.
A Paul McCartney always accompanied by the eternal Paul "Wicks" Wickens (Keyboards), Brian Ray and Rusty Anderson (guitars) and Abe Laboriel Jr. titanic (drums).
A great band that allows him to revive the classic Beatles, Wings and his solo career. But also a group with which he makes a vivid homage to people and artists he rub his long career. Starting with Jimi Hendrix which Macca salute through a Early resumption of the famous instrumental Foxy Lady. He will multiply the tributes throughout the concert to include the two Beatles that are no longer of this world to know John Lennon ( Here Today ) and George Harrison ( Something ).
The concert continues ... Macca alternating songs on the piano " The Long and Winding Road ", " My Love" or the acoustics resulting in the superb interpretation of ballads such as "Michelle " (played exclusively for the Parisian public) and more catchy titles "Mrs. Vandebilt " , " Dance Tonight."
Among the avalanche of titles is hard to tell when was the highlight of the show as each song delivering a lot of emotions. For my part I have a special affection for "Band on the Run " and its many changes of mood. And the deafening fireworks offered " Live And Let Die."
But where the show really takes its universal dimension is the directory with the Beatles. Cohesion between artist and audience is total and titles like "A Day In The Life" and "Hey Jude " confirms this impression. The surprise of this European tour is the small revolution in the setlist with the inclusion of " Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da ", title ever played throughout the career of Sir Paul and whose appearance rhyme original version fades here to take a festive dimension.
is also a directory with 100% that macca Fab Four will complete the concert during two intense reminders. The occasion for Paul to emphasize the sound one last time to commune alone with the public on "Yesterday " before moving on with the fury of "Helter Skelter . But with the medley " Sergeant Pepper's (reprise) / The End " that the story ends followed by a deluge of confetti. Last
hello to the public, Macca misses little to do éborgner by a guy who swings his vinyl on stage in hopes of having it signed. Moments later, Paul and his group finally left the stage, the lights come back on the Bercy ... it is time to return to reality.

After his first album "The Big Blues" appeared in 1961, it will take 5 years to Albert King is again signed a record label. This little journey through the desert rose is finally at Stax Records famous Memphis Soul label as the bulldozer velvet leases its favor.
The choice of Stax Records was wise in many respects because at that time Albert King was still an unknown quantity to almost white audience. And if the past it had been successful in near the black audience, he had turned his back on Blues overwhelmingly in favor of a soul music more suited to helping a generation to assert his rights in an America in social and cultural upheaval. With
"Born Under A Bad Sign" Albert King tint his Soul Blues with a touch, thanks and with the help of the elite musicians of Stax Records: Steve Cropper (Guitar), Booker T. Jones (Piano), Isaac Hayes (Piano), Donald "Duck" Dunn (Bass), Al Jackson Jr. (Drums) and the brass section of The Memphis Horn. The album was recorded sessions spanning from March 1966 to June 1967.
From the intro to the song title "Born Under A Bad Sign" the power of this group is felt. A horn section to boot a riff Blues became legendary supported by a flawless rhythm section. The old King has only to put his paw staff through his guitar playing is so characteristic of short sentences consisting of bends and heartbreaking.
Note however that the album makes great to compositions almost exclusively signed by the musicians of Stax Records once again demonstrated the willingness Albert King to innovate and to accept his Blues by the new generation. The album is also an opportunity for King to assume fully its qualities as a vocalist if not the boot and the power of a BB King's voice is as moving as suggested by his homage to the great crooners that are "I Almost Lost My Mind" , "As The Years Go Passing By" and "The Very Thought Of You" .
To the surprise of Albert King are whites and more particularly the English who will be the renowned album through again more or less successful. The list is long but we can cite the English group Cream to resume "Born Under A Bad Sign" on his album "Wheels of Fire" and will use the King's solo on "Crosscut Saw" as central to their composition "Strange Brew" from the album "Disraeli Gears" . For his part Free resume "The Hunter" and the group Led Zeppelin resume that some steps of this title on the title "How Many More Times" their first studio album.
And on the other hand his attempt to seduce the audience Soul successful as evidenced by the impressive list of album he will sign with Stax Records thereafter (12 album) and the climax of his popularity is near the black audience participation in concert in 1973 celebrating the 7th anniversary of the riots of Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles (see documentary Wattstax).

" The Cream the poor! " some news headline to describe the Irish training. It is true that Taste showed some similarities with the formation of Clapton / Bruce / Baker form part of the trio, with music as the main base Blues with some jazzy forays as was customary among most groups of the era. In addition the group had done the first part of Cream on their farewell concert, which adds to the comparison. But where
Cream seemed to hold the essence of his music which consisted of three members, Taste was the work of a single musician Rory Gallagher. Aged 18 at the group's formation in 1966, it will be the only permanent member (bassist Eric Kitteringham and drummer Norman Damery leaving the group in 1968) and the sole songwriter, signing all the titles of two Single Op Group Taste (1969) and On The Boards (1970).
This latest effort is interesting for several reasons because it shows that facets Gallagher finally let fall or refuse to renew in his solo albums. Including an obvious love for jazz and big blowers like John Coltrane which we can not help but think when listening to what Rory barely 22 years old come to take a saxophone in a few months of practice. While technically this is approximate Still, his interventions on sax on "It's Happened Before , It'll Happen Again" and "On The Boards " create a climate that is not only unpleasant for the music lover. Thereafter we hear very little Rory playing the saxophone on his solo albums with the exception of a few tracks ("Million Miles Away" & "They Do not Make Them Like You Anymore" from the album Tattoo of 1973) but more to create a background for showing off his virtuosity.
Conversely it should be noted that some securities carry with them the characteristics of future compositions of Rory Gallagher Band. "What's Going On " opens the way to Blues Rock that will create muscular over the album and will play on stage. "Eat My Words" meanwhile suggests future monument immortalizing the talents of Rory slide guitar. and "See Here" is the title acoustic Gallagher bind itself to include in almost all his albums and he will perform on stage.
Despite enthusiasm increasingly intense reaches its climax when he visited the Festival of the Isle of Wight in August 1970, Taste splits against all odds but logically. Training serving only satisfy the ambitions of Rory. Taste was one step in his career and "On The Boards" its transition phase.
That was almost 3 years that Deep Purple had not turned his attention to Paris. But this year is the celebration of Huma he finds himself set. Clearly they are the main attraction of these 3 days, the crowds came in droves to see only confirms this idea.
First concert of the group here and first time I see them. Despite a clear preference for the famous MKII is above all by curiosity, I'm moving with my sister.
Arrival around 19h we live in the alleys of the festival already crowded. Deep Purple being scheduled at 21:50 it is clear that we are ahead, but we wait to music with the set of Kooks a young rock band, not great but it's better than nothing at all to wait.
Once their set ended we approach the stage for Deep Purple and there begins a true fighter's travels to clear a path. The concert has not even started that there are movements of the crowd.
But once the agreement of the intro Highway Star pit already on the boil becomes untenable. Yet accustomed to this type of concert I was surprised by the violence of the crowd and I was forced to retreat and leave the area pogo to fully appreciate the concert. Many times people fall and cause people with them. I dropped my own and I thought I was going to end up crushed by the people around me. Luckily a nice guy helping me to get up seeing that I was struggling.
Besides I stressed that I was shocked to see a woman about forty, and her teenage daughter, snuff in the moving crowd, shouting and crying for help. Some people are insane and do not understand that at a certain age, it is better to refrain from attending a rock concert in the front row in a crowd composed mostly of young people aged 15 to 30 years. Other things that surprised me or rather upset that these bands are rogues (not write a word prohibited since that famous October 2005) through the crowd looking for people to snowshoeing and when meeting the opposition, there were fist as was the case for a poor guy who has since the chopper is an ugly black eye coupled with a fracture nose.
But despite the uproar in the audience on stage to rock grandpas (average age 55 to 64) connects the songs with ease. However I would note that on most classic Ian Gillan tends to hurt, especially when it comes to passages where his voice should usually be high. As for Steve Morse if he struggles in almost certain to overshadow Ritchie Backmore rest and it provides really knows how to give life to both the older titles (Strange Kind Of Woman , Wring That Neck ...) as the latest titles as Arabist Rapture Of The Deep or sublime ballad Sometimes I Feel Like Screaming.
organist Don Airey who replaced John Lord since 2003 is no exception. To prove his solo concert in the middle of not failing to pass the heat to titillate the public by interpreting a short passage of the Marseillaise.
The highlight of the show will go down the chain Space Truckin '/ Smoke On The Water where the entire audience, shouting themselves hoarse "On The Smoooke Waat! Fire in the sky!"
As a reminder, the group began Green Onions Booker T & the MG's (I think I was one of the few to recognize the title) to follow up with a convincing version of Hush n'émoustillera but not the public more than that. Singing only rarely "Na na na" in the chorus. By cons like a real game of question / answer which plays the audience and the band repeating the riff in the heart of Black Night that will end the festivities.

was 40 years ago ... American youth met in Bethel near Woodstock for three days of love, peace and music from 15 to 18 August 1969.
The event which was to host 50 000 people eventually host 400 000. The festival became a paying basis by force of circumstance a free event, which was a financial disaster for the organizers but scored final event in the legend.
also creates a legend and thanks to incredible displays, the cream of the music of the time was met Janis Joplin, Joe Cocker, The Who, Canned Heat, Santana, Ten Years After, Sly & the Family Stone , Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Joan Baez, Johnny Winter, Jefferson Airplane ... and of course Jimi Hendrix
But what was truly a spotlight for some (eg, revelation of Ten Years After and Joe Cocker) was a real nightmare for others. Blame it on organization and logistics still not developed, it can be added to the rain that hit the site during the second day (eg Benefit disappointing Creedence Clearwater Revival, which later inspired them the title "Who'll Stop The Rain " ) that lengthened the duration of the festival up that famous morning of August 18 where Jimi Hendrix and his new group entered the scene.
Under the name of "Jimi Hendrix Experience" what the group announced, but Hendrix comes immediately clarify things by stating that the experiment is over and he gave way to Gypsy Sun Rainbows & or Band of Gypsy. daring thing for an event of this magnitude with this group barely lapped Jimi that occurs the morning of August 18, 1969. Training consists of Billy Cox (bass) an old friend of Jimi regiment will be his bassist until his death the following year, Mitch Mitchell (drums) is the sole survivor of the dissolution of the Experience, Larry Lee (guitar), Juma Sultan & Jerry Velez (percussion).
Training has an appointment with history and it is with "Message to Love " she begins. A new publication just played so far and which will climax with the live Band of Gyspsy . An Introduction smooth finally a concert will that going in intensity until the final explosion. " Hear my train comin '" title not present in the DVD version of the concert and whose acoustic version should be more known to the general public that the electric version. Nevertheless, this title is not new since Jimi has performed several times with the Experience, here you can clearly hear the beginnings of Machine Gun which will come some months later. It is a very good version that the group serves, we note that the version of the dual will be published in the solo Larry Lee as will be the case with virtually all his solos on following titles. And two compositions Lee (Mastermind, Gypsy Woman) are absent from the double CD and DVD.
"English Castle Magic " & " Red House" as well-known repertoire hendrix are emerging. If delivery of the first title is correct, it is slightly frustrated by the Red House where Hendrix was inspired shows at both the singing guitar but the voltage drops suddenly when Jimi broke a string. You do not hear it on the double but Jimi handed over to Larry Lee, whose solo cut. Shortening and promising version.
ensues " Lover Man" which is another the hendrix version of "Rock Me Baby" by BB King. A version of Hendrix or playful mood dancing leaves much room for Larry Lee. "Foxy Lady " aka hendrix standard repertoire, but not the best interpretation of the career of Voodoo Child has the merit of showing some semblance of cohesion in this new formation.
From " Jam Back at the House ", instrumental in the hypnotic rhythm, the concert takes a new turn. Group cohesion is felt more than in previous songs. Adding however that the percussion provided by Jama Sultan Jerry Velez & are hardly noticeable and this during the entire concert. "Izabella " new composition tells the story of a soldier on the front hoping that his beloved does not disappoint during his absence. Apart from the lyrics is a title that will be enjoyable rarely played by suite.Retour with more conventional with "Fire " whose violent interpretation does not fade with the studio version.
Nothing, I think could have prepared the public to see what he was in the latter part of the concert. With " Voodoo Child (Slight Return )" Hendrix and the Gypsy Sun & Rainbows offer just one of the best versions of this track live. The intensity never seems to come down, except the part where Jimi this group while continuing to play. Cohesion as sought by the group since the beginning seems to be found. Jimi will even offer the public who misses from claiming that the concert was turning into jam.
Those who have followed this advice of finger licking. For though the public has increased from 400 000 to 30 000 people at the end of the festival, the highlight of the show and make the portion Woodstock immortal and so representative of a generation will unfold before their eyes.
Jimi appropriated under the astonished eyes of the public the American anthem "The Star Spangled Banner ," punctuating his interpretation of the sounds of bombs as if a plane was dropping napalm screams added to it. Hendrix is so true figure of sound sculptor and comparison with Guernica is strong about. A heavy version of sense given the political context of the time and enormous courage on the part of a young black 26 year old who touches a sacred symbol as having no time to fear of offending the puritanical America.
is the applause and shouts that conquered the public connects with Hendrix " Purple Haze, "a title that culminates with the sequence to the long improvisation" Woodstock Improvisation "where Jimi without bluster demonstrated both virtuosity and a great sense of improvisation from the great shock at Wha Wha more rhythmic crossing to finish in a quiet peaceful position itself away by the sublime instrumental "Villanova Junction .
The concert could have ended on this note of levity but decides Jimi concluding with "Hey Joe ." He who had said repeatedly getting tired of playing this title is surely thank the public that the interpreter at the very end of the concert.
First concert BB King for me, I confess that I would have preferred to see as part of a festival ( cognac or Nice) I had to fall back on the Palais des Congres at the last minute.
arrived in the Palais des Congres something that I continue, this building is cold and soulless. I was a little like entering a theater like UGC but 2 to 3 times great. Basically I was supposed to find me in the penultimate position at the top but the lovely lady in charge to take me to my place I am proposing to move a dozen rank lowest.
Big black point of the evening waiting. Although we pass the old blues in the background, I finally realized that the first part of a small half hour show 45 minutes was not too much. The BB and it is desired to pass only 21 pm the concert begins with his musicians to start, I do not remember names, is the drummer Tony Coleman is the one that impressed me most. Second dot the sound, I do not know what it was higher or lower right corner of the room but the sound of brass in the beginning was unbearable.
Once the first two songs played by the band heater finish, BB King returns to the stage, purple sequin jacket. I found it quite fit for an octogenarian and it alone without help from anyone that finds its place. The concert begins with Let The Good Time Roll and its legendary and idiosyncratic Lucille will sound weird but it has not caused the expected sensation. I found the sound of his guitar a little too hard and unusual distortion, then that's the impression I had from where I sat.
Nan definitely what moved me most and what I remember from this concert is that voice, almost intact at age 83. And hear live and surely the first opportunity for me to justify seeing BB King at least once in their life. Securities linked together Every Day I Have The Blues , Guess Who , One Kind Of Favor .
And as foreshadowed in the majority of his concerts and his advanced age the chatter is somewhat precedence over the music. Everything begins with congratulations when BB made the shopping public by saying that "The France is one of the few countries to understand the Blues ", that" Paris is one of the top three cities in the world for the Blues ", etc. ... I guess he prowled a speech according to each city where he plays. Sometimes it is nice, sometimes it's Vienna is the capital of Blues in France. The other half of the concert he will joke and to make the audience laugh. I admit I felt tired by the time , not really knowing how to behave and wondering if we were to pass without saying anything on the pretext that the King of the Blues is older and closer to the tomb and saw that his past and his contribution to the Blues could be him forgive those moments of madness with the public. The question arises for other artists old (Buddy Guy to name him) who no longer have the energy that fills this lack of energy by much talk and one-upmanship. It dedication
a title for women, saying it was clearly disgusted with the way rappers treat women in their chansons.Puis he will chain with Rock Me Baby he dedicates this time to men. And frustration for me he did not finish the song because it connects directly with The Thrill Is Gone and yet is strangely lot of chills that I hoped not happen, mistakes can be the sound or brass sections that I find it very dull in contrast to the versions I used to hear. Oh When the Saints closes the concert very soon a mass of people rushed to the scene to receive picks and shake hands with BB King. Being too far away I watch the scene with applause.
BB leaves the scene, it's time for me to join my sister and a friend who was sitting a few rows ahead of me. Overall I'm happy to have seen BB King, I remember above all that voice and good humor of the man. But I'm left frustrated and saw this concert in the semi shade because of this that I sound a bit spoiled the sound of Lucille I was too strida at times. Regarding the fact that he has a lot about it I put on the account age. I feel happy and lucky for the opportunity to see BB King in the future, none shall surely not soon see any more.
July 22, 2009 AC / DC Glasgow Hampden Park June 30, 2009 John Mayall
Never in my life imagined I would set foot in Scotland and yet this is where my sister and I landed. It's crazy that passion for one group may grow to. Try to see the members of AC / DC at George V was my first sign of obsession see fanaticism, but to see them in the hometown of the Young brothers had pushed the vice beyond the imaginable.
So Sunday, June 28 that we fly to Beauvais airport, having missed the first flight 14.00, we have no choice but to wait for the next one is at 23:55. I spend voluntarily on the long wait at Beauvais not you understand the most exciting city in France.
So late into the night we arrived at Prestwick Airport , a few miles from Glasgow (yes I will not speak in mileage because this measurement completely foreign to me). After taking a bus towards Buchanan Bus Station in the heart of Glasgow, we took a taxi to our hostel Globetrotters Hostel . A youth hostel in a state of disrepair that does not count many clients. But beyond its appearance the welcome we receive is exemplary. An old Scottish and Irish two young (one named Angus) invites us to drink with them. Despite the late hour (around 1:00) we accept as not to offend. After we have made a long speech about the superiority of Glasgow from Edinburgh and brotherly ties uniting Scotland and France since the Middle Ages, the old Scottish too soaked with alcohol begins to doze. It was 4:00 and we spent even soaked Vodka ask where is our rooms. It is with some pleasure that we take our ease even if the state of inadequacy of rooms would be enough to scare.
Day Monday we will familiarize ourselves with the city. Both say immediately if the reception is the highlight of this city is surely to compensate with little to see. Simply put Glasgow offer very little appeal in terms of tourism. Before we left when we arrived and even my sister and myself were amazed to find no tourist guide of the city such as "Backpacker's Guide" or otherwise. Fortunately the city center and its numerous pedestrian streets have something to occupy us for the rest of the day. Another positive sign is the city seems to have put the color of AC / DC with fronts Pub and shops displaying clearly the upcoming event. But before taking the huge slap at Hampden Park the following day, we booked a small snack mouth by visiting the legendary John Mayall Academy at the O2 on Monday night. (See previous column)
Tuesday, June 30, the day has finally arrived ... It was at 10:00 that we wake up, someone knocks on our door, there are three fans of AC / DC Scottish freshly landed. At the outset they offer us a beer that we accept, even if a beer by way of my breakfast is not our practice. Once ready we head towards the city center, buy some drinks and sandwiches and then take our train to Central Station . Normally we would descend to the Mount Florida station, but I am mistaken, we descend Queens Park station, that compel us to walk at least 1km. This time it was worth it to go down the sooner we go past a beautiful park and housing rather posh.
Finally got around Hampden Park before we ask the B input, I want to send a text message to Jul '(ACDC Highway to the forum) who tells me they are still downtown. Despite the sweltering heat, the wait is bearable. Some killed time by playing ball or reading the tabloids.
After waiting about 1:30, long lines began to form and not very far from me I see two jackets to patch types. Surely it's them ... My sister is going to meet them while I keep our place in the queue and actually it is indeed Jul 'and Loic. The doors open and I barely have time to greet Jul 'as we move inside.
We sit on the left side of the stage and Malcolm begin to get acquainted. It evokes our past concerts. Jul 'has an enviable record to his credit: 20th concerts. Suffice to say that me and my 4th concert of it looks really silly boys next.
When The Answer rears its nose at last we have the opportunity to test the Scottish public and especially the acoustics of the stadium. The Irish faithful to themselves will climb the same set as was seen in each of the tour dates in Europe. With the exception of Scottish hymn that will awaken the enthusiasm of the public to Hampden.
If we can be drunk in time to see The Answer to every concert, it's nothing compared to the appalling English band The Subways . From memory I do not recall seeing a group as pedantic and pretentious. And musically j'vous not tell ... it turns three / four chords while screaming for stacking and turning on or even with his guitar and it dares to proclaim itself as a rock band.
Moreover, given the scandal they caused at Wembley a few days earlier by insulting the boys and their fans I do not understand that they have been maintained in the first part. Besides, throughout their set, they will try to redeem himself by stroking in the direction of the hair and the public by praising Scotland. Audiences clearly not fooled around with me since a field of major well-trained sprouted like magic.
And here we are now in the final straight, the roadies to give boys the tools and the soundtrack that we pass from Buddy Guy is heard. Before us a band of young Scottish girls plump did not seem aware that this seemingly quiet will pit a handful of minutes in a real cauldron. Jul 'warns one of the girls but it does not seem to pay attention to what he says.
And here we go! The cartoon appeared on the screen. It was nice seeing him again and again whether in concert or in video on the net is that this introduction scene of mouth. The train derailed and the little devil appears disguised as a schoolboy and strikes the first chords of Rock n 'Roll Train . Need we say more except that the slap is huge as always. It was thought at the last time our boys will give the maximum like every concert. From the beginning the people behind exert immense pressure we compress against the barriers.
The band of young girls begin to show signs of panic. One of them especially in front of me does not seem to understand that pressure that people come back and start to insult any names of birds imaginable. It will crush me violently until the right foot. Then panic on Back in Black asked to be evacuated by security guys. The friend Jul 'put his hand to the paw helping out other girls, which not only we will make a gain of space and we will finally be against the barriers.
From Big Jack, I can finally enjoy the concert without much thought of people who claim to be evacuated. However I would point out a rather astonishing detail, these are largely people who are overweight out. The girls apparently smaller gauge better resistant to pressure.
Onstage our boys go wild, linking the tracks with ease but I usually just point out that Brian seemed more tired than the others with a voice less on top than usual. For the rest we say more except that pleasure is always the same listening to Dirty Deeds , Shot Down In Flames, Thunderstruck . Brian us Frequently somewhat the beginning words of The Jack , but the strip of Angus and videos showing young girls in the audience (including one who hesitate do not topless) will make us forget this little incident. After Hells Bells guitar a little change is necessary including the use of the White Falcon for Malcolm on Shoot to Thrill .
moment that was almost magical to me before War Machine, my eyes meet those of Brian, I make him sign and he replied in turn that back. It starts not far from Malcolm and returns with a bottle (probably a kind of energy drink) he launched at me sadly, I grazes the fingertips and on my left is someone who recovers.
I'm seeing them for the 4th time but nothing I remain passive Anything Goes . From You Shook Me All Night Long the concert takes on a whole other dimension, the receptive audience sing the entire song with Brian who benefits especially early Whole Lotta Rosie . In the same way Brian made in the heat of the action loses its headset (probably for returns) and can not sing the song ends. Let There Be Rock is surely a title gives me the chills more than live because the band gives everything he has and it's time thanks to Angus, where he shows off his dexterity. One thing struck me while Angus was on the platform, I saw Brian in the dark trying to practice a kind of breathing exercise, closing your eyes and deeply inspiring and expiring.
Some had made the journey on purpose to hear it but I confess to hear Bonny not given me lot of excitement expected. I would have preferred that Angus plays it once on stage, communion with the public would have been more intense. Highway to Hell and For Those About To Rock (We Salute You) end as usual the festivities. I was not expecting any surprises, however I was surprised by the magnitude of the fireworks even more impressive than the damp squib that we had right at the Stade de France.
Small souvenir photo with Jul, before this scene that we all hope again one day, then it is time to find and Loïc Arnukem (also members of H2ACDC) with whom I only know. Together we redo the concert without much talk about who we all trot in the head to know "Do we attended their last concert in Europe ? »
We Salute You Scotland !!!

Both the state immediately, the purpose of the trip to Glasgow was not in the database to see John Mayall but to see a last time some training (Hard?) Rock dear to my heart. But as Glasgow is not a city with great tourist attraction, the idea of seeing John Mayall and his new band is quickly came to the idea of my sister and myself to take care during these 4 days. It was at the O2 Academy , comparable room at La Cigale (to give an order mind) in terms of ability to place the father Mayall took up residence. It was around 6:00 p.m. we come around. A lean queue of about twenty persons, mostly consisting of quadratic and fifties is already present when we arrive. At 18:30 the doors open and engulf us inside. To my surprise the access to the balcony is closed, Mayall surely have not sold the number of space expected, it was in that pit and we end up sitting. I would spend the first part was a strange British band who played a kind of country folk accumulating pompous clichés.
This first one shows up as John Mayall on stage, greeting the public and a cursory glance at the room with only a hundred people present. Which is low for an artist renowned for her. It does not matter since we announced the first song of the concert. A title in the spirit of Sonny Boy Williamson II, Another Man (now the famous Beano) that only plays the harmonica. One could not expect better introduction, the beginning of the concert is at once an atmosphere of being with a unique material - the Blues.
The new group of John then goes on stage compound Rocky Athas (Guitar) for which info is a Texan guitarist and childhood friend of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Rzab Greg (bass) with an impressive resume (Santana, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, The Allman Brothers, Albert King, Otis Rush ...), he auditioned at the close of the Stones saw in replacing Bill Wyman. Jay Davenport (drums) who played himself in the past with big names of the Blues (Pinetop Perkins, Melvin Taylor, Junior Wells, Jimmie Johnson ...). Tom Canning (Keyboards), which is the only survivor of the dissolution of the Bluesbreakers, which needs no introduction. So
concert linked together with a lot of classic majority derived from the famous Beano (Hideaway, All Your Love Parchman Farm Have You Heard ...). Mayall does leave the keyboard aside for the guitar only time a title from the last album.
New acolytes of John having fun on stage and it shows, Mayall any hesitation when getting back to the showcase. The Rocky Athas Texan style brings a certain dynamic to the group that Mayall had not or had lost with the Bluesbreakers Buddy Wittington. This new training confess not to have been masses transported by the intervention of Tom Canning.
Trivia and hilarious moment during the concert. Our presence intrigue one of our neighbors who have the nerve to stretch a sheet Mayall father when he wrote: (the word was in English) "The two people near me are in Paris, I do not ask a small Parisian Walkays ( the famous title of Gary Moore) but? "as saying that after reading this word Mayall we were blown across the room as if it was pointing the spotlight on us. On leaving the room we had to "Welcome to Scotland" and in French from people public who attended enjoyed the whole scene.
So about all I could say about this concert, my first John Mayall and which I hope will not be my last (Mayall has apparently snubbed France for his new tour). I apologize to the passage of not having developed more on the setlist (which I have forgotten except for some tracks) but I can certify it focused more on the classics.
This June 4, 2009 will forever be etched in my memory. After narrowly missed last year, I finally the opportunity to catch my mistake and finally see the great Neil Young.
It is not at the Olympia Grand Rex or the Loner elected domicile, but the Zenith, a room that is less intimate but more true to the extent of the great shock he is about send as evidenced by his latest album Fork in the Road . An album that has barely operated on stage with the exception of the song "Get Behind The Wheel .
So in a Zenith packed the Loner played tonight before an audience rather eclectic. There are so many fans from the start that young teens weaned on sound Harvest.
The scene in itself provides a rather chaotic, with cables on both others. And fantasy on the part of the Loner, an Indian totem pole and a red phone (a wink of the Cold War probably) appear out of nowhere.
is at times rather late (21:30) as the old Neil enters. The man looks really old top of its 64 years but in a casual view it presents itself. White shirt, T shirt bearing the image of the revolutionary Zapata, jeans and as he frequently reminded throughout the concert regularly repeating his shoes between each song: a new pair of shoes.
Seeing in this light we can not help thinking that this is surely it would have to look like Kurt Cobain in 20 years if he did not take life. For it is the Neil Young "Father of Grunge " that broke from the first agreements Love And Only Love , thus dispersing the doubts about his health that has been so battered in recent years.
The first part of the concert all electricity shows a Neil Young combative, fighting with his guitar solos ripping out.
The concert continued its momentum Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black) , Nobody Knows This Is Nowhere, Pocahontas, Spirit Road ... the voltage drops a little time for a sumptuous and haunting Cortez The Killer. Then rises dramatically from the cartel's riff Cinnamon Girl placing the Zenith in turmoil.
Neil leaves time for later guitar and starts the organ for the title Mother Earth which is part of its new eco trip. For my part the message is rather bad, I look at the time and looks forward to the next song.
Neil Young began the acoustic set with only Do not Let It Bring You Down interpreted in a religious calm. Then linked together two titles (with the group this time) Album Comes A Time (1978), Goin 'Back and Comes A Time . The Loner was not a title does not store as essential to his repertoire that Heart Of Gold . A title sung by the public but which strangely does not make me shudder as I would have thought. Perhaps this is due to the pedal steel part of Ben Keith I find a bit bland.
Seeing the public finally conquered the old Neil took the opportunity to present his group of Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar), Rick Rosas (Bass) Chad Cromwell (drums) Neil's wife Pegi Young (Chorus) Anthony Crawford (Choir, Guitar, Piano). Old Man just finish this acoustic set in style with a very receptive audience and playful at the onset of Larry Cragg (roadie Neil Young) on banjo.
Back to Electric for one last party together as exciting as the first. With Mansion On The Hill the electric machine is recovering in motion soon followed Get Behind The Wheel then Rockin 'In The Free World that the group no longer seems to want to stop until the break out on stage and in the audience reached climax. After a long hello, Neil and his Electric Band leaves the stage ... but the show is not over.
back on stage, a keyboard shaped like a bird descend on the scene and it is again left with Like A Hurricane in a version where the Canadian hypnothisante splits again long solos ripping. But the sound barrier was finally passed with the resumption of Beatles A Day In The Life, The Loner baited tirelessly on his old Les Paul, triturating the strings with his whammy bar to the explosion of them.
Under this flood of sound and this apocalyptic vision that the old Neil and his band finally left the stage. Leaving an audience of Zenith in any other state in which it was originally. But with the certainty that with this kind of concert Rock N 'Roll Can Never Die!
