Jimi Hendrix: The Unfulfilled Dream (Regis Canselier)
"The fiery guitar Monterey eclipse always the musician who was burning ..." If this sentence seems to sound like an obvious, unfortunately it does not echo the vision left by the genius of the six strings to close the vast majority of the public who has retained only as a single image , the showman who breaks his guitar, playing behind his head or with the teeth.
For the first time a book has just hit the twist given to the ideas that most people do on the guitar through sound analysis and documented focusing on the musical aspect first. In dissecting albums, live performances and shedding light on the jungle that is the discography post-mortem of the Voodoo Chile, Regis Canselier (Hendrix forum administrator ) can be viewed with Yazid Manou as other specialist Jimi Hendrix in France.
If at first the book does not seem to go to novices, it remains affordable to amateurs with a limited culture hendrix interested in learning more about the famous left-handed. Here there is no question of degrading stories to impress (see case the sextape), if there anecdotes, they are in the best analysis supported by the author.
It comes out quickly to the albums mentioned in each chapter to make the link between the analysis of the author and what is listening. Also seem to need several readings on the overall understanding of the book or at least parts of it that may seem a bit fuzzy at first but soon become clear once we had the chance to build on audio clips.
More than a book, Regis Canselier gives us a real "guide" to travel in the bowels of the work of the guitarist's most fascinating of the last century.

The group was formed in 1966 following the meeting Rory Gallagher, Eric Kitteringham Norman and Demery . The three men are discovering the same musical affinities, they came to them naturally to the idea of calling their trio Taste ("Taste" in English). This line up will be fleeting and not released any album, the band's manager Eddie Kennedy had proposed to Rory to join him as a real professional musicians in the person of John Wilson (Jazz-influenced drummer who has played including the group's second album Them of Van Morrison ) and Richard McCracken on bass.
Prime line up from left to right: Eric Kitteringham, Rory Gallagher, Norman Demery.
Second line up from left to right: Rory Gallagher, Richard McCracken, John Wilson.
The first album was recorded at Emerald Studio in Belfast in August 1968 and released in April 1969.
All entries are signed Rory Gallagher except Leavin 'Blues (Leadbelly), Sugar Mama (Howlin' Wolf), I'm Moving On (Hank Snow) Catfish Blues Traditional .
outset this first opus is a color Blues / Rock pronounced enough connection with the movement of British Blues of the moment. But what separates Taste other formations of the British Blues Boom is the originality of interpretation and the care given to certain compositions that completely out of context Blues. Like the way of introduction Blister On The Moon into a vein on the edge of Rock Hard or Same Old Story which seems more consistent with that designation. The composite
the most original and perhaps most audacious of the album remains Born On The Wrong Side Of Time with his gimmick intro typically Celtic and his party central progressive acoustic pretty surreal. Contrary to the next album On The Boards jazz is not too far ... there remains some traces in the drum rolls of John Wilson (influences Tony Williams and Elvin Jones in particular) and the bass lines of Richard McCracken as evidenced by the totally personal version of the title of bluesman Leadbelly, Leavin 'Blues with this jazzy bass line totally mesmerizing.
future as seen through the albums of Rory Gallagher Band, the acoustic tracks were already news on this first album, Hail may not have the stuff and velocity of a Pistol Slapper Blues but the wedding of Rory's voice with the melody played in unison in a kind of sang-phrasing is typical of the Irish game. Regarding his phrasing precisely it is a rare maturity for a young man of 20 years. He perfectly understood the big names of the Blues as evidenced by the resumption of Howlin 'Wolf, Sugar Mama, and leaves something personal away from the tired stereotypes that abounded in the following decades through more interested guitarists by the appearance of the lead guitar blues as they could convey the feelings.
The genius of this training also lies in the ability to reinterpret the securities depending on his mood, as this Catfish (Catfish Blues or) popularized by Muddy Waters hundred miles of the most famous versions. Cumbersome bass, drums and his guitar riff Hard Blues give a color that is reminiscent of the first occasions Blues Led Zeppelin album (ex: You Shook Me) to be recorded just months after the first album of the Irish.
Taste is a masterstroke. Not the most striking album of 60's but that laid the groundwork for training fairly unique with a promising future. The future will decide, however everything else ...
few days ago I was wondering if I should write this column after the disappointment (it should clearly say so) what was the first (and probably my last) concert of Aerosmith .
The causes are many, but this disappointment first return to the top.
arrived in the vicinity of POPB to 14h (something I do not do it again so soon), full dodger with a thermometer, which should be around 35 ° C. The first sign of discomfort came in seeing the average age of the public pit (15/20 years) and largely female.
first observation, it does not have any old Hardos from the queue, just some young teens confess aloud to have known the group through the attraction Rock n 'Roller Coaster of Walt Disney Studio .
is with a feeling of going to attend a high school prom at the end of the year than with a heavy heart I enter the POPB. I place myself at the end of the advance, the two huge speaker (where the sound is supposed to be better) and awaits the arrival of the first part.
What about The Cribs except that it is probably the worst part I have ever seen. British rock seen again and again, combining images pompous always with the same chord running constantly with no originality. More than the attitude or the songs played is mostly shrill sound throughout their set which was unbearable. By the time the guys trying to play with no feedback there (not Hendrix or Jeff Beck, who wants). I
following general mild and polite with the first games, I joined the legions of whistles around.
A long curtain came down with Aerosmith stamped Everybody Must Get Stoned of Bob Dylan in the background, then the first notes of Love in an Elevator are heard. Lets the curtain up to the group and Steven Tyler especially the first venturing towards the public. If his tastes are garish clothing (jacket and straw hat with straw) my attention was immediately attracted by the sound coming out of spray cabinets. From the second securities not recognize Back in the Saddle until Tyler begins to sing. And it will be like that on any securities Rocks concert.
It's true they have a hell of fishing, especially Tyler, but I think at times he is too. Poses to Ventilos faces endless. Ridicule is achieved according to me when it happens for minutes of cum in front of cameras. All this gives the impression of having turned on his TV and MTV mater.
Printing reinforced by the choice of walking marshmallows ( Jaded , I Do not Want To Miss A Thing ... to name the most unbearable) punctuating this concert enhanced by MTV Music on the big screen.
If I have to keep an almost enjoyable time in this concert, I would keep the version of the title of Peter Green , Stop Messin 'Around by Joe Perry . Unfortunately as with Baby Please Do not Go later, the public is not very receptive. It must be said that given the age and given the interest of the public to more mainstream titles stamped MTV Directory of boys from Boston. Do not expect to extend scream of joy when Perry asked: "Do You Want Some Blues?"
I do not have much to add after this huge disappointment, even recall Dream On, Walk This Way , Toys in the Attic I was not excited. The sound, especially the mix of guitars of Perry and Whitford are a real mush of sound.
is two feet before I leave this POPB, a room that thrilled me so much in the past (AC / DC, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney ...) and now a party has lost its magic ... true until the next concert.
