Hakkapeliitta Versus Gislaved Nord
Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood Paris Bercy May 25, 2010
It will still took 4 years to see Clapton in our good old capital. In this 2006 concert I kept mixed feelings with one hand the satisfaction of having finally seen Eric "God" Clapton and hear most of his chips component directory but with the feeling that he had not given the best of capacity. Relying far too often for my taste on the pair of guitarists "Doyle Bramhall II" & "Derek Trucks.
works together with Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Blind Faith of course) that Clapton had decided to embark on a European tour with a unique concert tour in France at Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy.
arrived in the vicinity of POPB with my sister around 14h, we soon make the acquaintance of Oliver (KJP for short) and part of the staff of Claptonweb.com .
past 6:30 p.m., doors open, little sprint in the pit and finally to the middle front row slightly offset to the left.
20h and dust, the two friends are late but finally make their entrance. And it is on Had to Cry Today it all starts. Lead track from the album Blind Faith eponymous the two men scrambling for every two on their guitars. If what Winwood as a guitarist is interesting it's nothing compared to the almost orgasmic solo that sends us Slowhand ... excitement guaranteed.
Low Down and After Midnight are of the same ilk, he played great classic at a phenomenal rate seen entangled the chorus of a very inspired Clapton. On Presence of the Lord both men flirt with the sublime.
One thing that is valuable addition to the quality of the performance of both men is the setlist. It brews broad enough to please everyone, combining common shares of the two men, classic solos or small personal pleasure as this Shape I'm In as The Band. Another thing that is nice to see and hear, what are the titles of Blind Faith, an album that had been so maligned at the time of its release. It is only fair to see some titles take full dimension of dust and live, like the excellent Well Alright.
few words about the band anyway! There are
Willie Weeks on bass, Steve Gadd on drums, Chris Stainton the keyboard (the latter interventions do not always believe me and sometimes the keyboard sound too synthetic to my taste was the limit of what I could tolerate), the addition of vocalists Michelle John and Sharon White was not essential (especially as a vocalist Steve Winwood) but that does not misrepresented in any way titles. Their interventions are fairly discreet most of the time.
Le concert est entrée dans une toute autre dimension selon moi à partir de Georgia On My Mind . A different version than the live at Madison Square Garden in New York since Winwood on the organ is accompanied this time by Clapton playing seated. Very focused on his game that he does not get up time of his chorus, not the best of the evening but still going well.
Trial of the acoustic set has become a must for every Slowhand concert for a good fifteen years. To me this is not what excited me most, Clapton instead moving on autopilot when it comes to titles like Drifting Blues , How Long and even more when s' acts as a classic Layla but I'm always more impressed to see the suffrage entailed by this title in close to the public. Bercy is definitely under the influence of two men from that time until the end of the evening. By
against the nail of this acoustic set is Can not Find My Way Home where as for Presence Of The Lord, the two men again flirt with the sublime.
Back to electric with a classic Gimme Some Lovin ' the Spencer Davis Group that keeping the attention and pressure from the public and once again demonstrates the talents of vocalist Steve Winwood.
But if I had to keep a highlight of this concert is definitely nice to cry this version of Voodoo Chile where Clapton and Winwood brings to life for 13 minutes under Jimi Hendrix . The fact that both men were close friends with the legendary guitarist and one of them had participated in the recording of the same title more than forty years earlier on the album Electric Ladyland reinforces and justifies this tribute alone in his interpretation of this concert. The sequence with
Cocaine seems rather anecdotal side, yet the joy of playing live is transmitted to the public which takes up the refrain as one man. Only a small black dot, the solo keyboard Chris Stainton I found rather long and tedious.
Dear Mr. Fantasy Traffic title in As a reminder and an end, especially the small side sympathetic shrug that takes the song at the end, but I saw a title more galvanizing to finish this evening. One last hello to the public, the lights are struggling to reignite, many believe a new reminder, but eventually the lights come back.
What I remember from that night is above all the complicity between Clapton & Winwood pushing the first to give the best of himself. Slowhand with the joviality of the French public and of course the interpretation of each title although it is debatable choices.
If this tour is one of the best long in any case it is the best concert of Eric Clapton that I have ever seen.

Walk Through Walls Cheat For Gpsphone
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells (1973)
I decided to digress for a moment getting away somewhat from Blues roots (to better come back later! ) to get down to writing columns about an artist completely apart. Namely Mike Oldfield an artist it is difficult to affix a label. Sometimes progressive rock, New Age ... imbuing his music a Celtic heritage, sometimes Pop / Rock and Electro. I open a small parenthesis in this multi-instrumentalist genius, which gave the Rock some of his finest instrumental albums.
1. Part 1 - 25:36
2. Part 2 - 23:20
He was only 17 when germinated in him the beginnings of what will Tubular Bells . This is the model of his next project under his arm he will canvass the record in vain. The
hello come from Richard Branson that seen in the work of Mike Oldfield a good way to start his own label Virgin (now true financial empire).
The recording of the album will run from fall 1972 to spring 1973.
It is difficult to summarize or describe the atmosphere generated by this album mainly because of the length of its two parts, surplus both 20 min and the many themes and instruments used in the past (piano, organ , tubular bells, guitars, basses, mandolins, Glockenspiel ...)
The first part starts on a Theme piano popularized largely by the movie "The Exorcist by William Friedkin.
For the anecdote Christian Vander drummer Magma claim the authorship of this topic claiming plagiarism on the part of Mike Oldfield. Magma was in the same studio that Oldfield when the latter recording his album. However
releasing a demo of 1971 tend to prove that the accusations are false Vander.
Yet it would be wrong to summarize and Tubular Bells part 1 of this unique theme. For if the atmosphere reached within 4 first few minutes is conducive to a horror movie, the rest of the first part is a lot less. The following
alternates lyrical form of organs, bells of all kinds, mandolins etc. ... and passage worst harmonized guitars repeating the same pattern continuously until the next theme. The theme of re-introducing a stealth raid to make room for new guitars and sounds of the organ. A long acoustic
theme accented with a few bells and thumping bass notes before the last theme of the first part. A theme that begins with a bass pattern that is superimposed on various instruments that are their entry after they were announced: " Grand piano, reed and pipe organ, glockenspiel, bass guitar, double speed guitar; Two Slightly distorted guitars, mandolin! English guitar, and acoustic guitar Introducing; ... more tubular. .. bells! "
The first part is going to die in a final acoustic passage
The second part is in my humble opinion underrated, it suffers in part to the popularity of theme introduction of part 1. It's a whole different mood than we offer this last part, away from the climate of unease and oppression of the former. Note the absence of tubular bells .
It begins sounding a theme that is Celtic played mandolin, guitar and keyboard sound which installs a climate where there is a certain serenity. A serenity to
As the title, gives way to a theme where the harmonized guitars here imitate the sound of a bagpipe.
Then in the middle of the game is a pattern that can be clearly termed Rock that comes into play. Guitars and drums meet with as much violence as voice hoarse throat that throughout this same theme.
After this passage is a reason most explosive calm and soothing which makes its appearance when the phrasing of the guitar of Mike Oldfield goes perfectly with the ambience of substance lurking by the organ.
And that came out of nowhere as the famous traditional tune The Sailor's Hornpipe appeared. It is played on the mandolin and its rate increases at breakneck speed to end abruptly and thus put an end to the second section and closing the album.
Tubular Bells fate May 25, 1973, in addition to the impact it will have to close the public through the soundtrack of "The Exorcist" the album became a landmark and a cornerstone of progressive rock and instrumental.
As for Mike Oldfield reserved and intimidated by this success, he'll go relax in Wales in the county of Herefordshire near a hill called Hergest Ridge . But that's another story ...
